Criteria of Eligibility for Admission

Candidates must be Citizens of India / children or dependents of Non-Resident Indians.

The candidate should have passed 3 or 3½ years General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) Course with 50% marks in aggregate from an institution recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC).
Candidates should have passed their Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination (12 years course), or Senior School Certificate Examination(10+2), Pre-Degree Examination (10+2), Or An equivalent with 12 years schooling from a recognised board or university, with science subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology).
Every candidate before admission to the course shall submit to the Principal of the Institution a Certificate of Medical Fitness from an authorized Medical Officer with MBBS or higher qualification certifying that the candidate is fit to undergo the course.
Candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from authorities other than the State of Kerala except CBSE and ICSE should produce the certificate of recognition and equivalence of the qualifying examination from the Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council and the Kerala University of Health Sciences.
Any further norms of eligibility that may be prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council / Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council /KUHS shall also apply.

Candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RNRM) with the Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council.

Duration of the programme shall be two years.
Internship integrated practice is incorporated with respective practical hours in each year.

Additionally, two sets of photocopies of all the certificates/documents attested by Gazetted officers have to be submitted at the time of admission.

Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as competent nurses and midwives in providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services who can make independent decisions in nursing situations and conduct research studies, in the areas of nursing practice and assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in a clinical/community health setting/ institutions of nursing education.

Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medical including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
Demonstrate understanding of life style and other factors, which affect the health of individuals and groups.
Provide nursing care based on nursing process.
Demonstrate critical thinking skills in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
Provide promotive, preventive, and restorative health services in line with the National Health Policies and programmes.
Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.

Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and team work.
Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/communities health settings/Institutions of nursing education.
Participate effectively as members of the health team in the health care delivery system.
Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical/community health settings.
Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.
